3643-5 is a collaborative work by Michael Genovese and Carlos Javier Ortiz conceived for a group exhibition at Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago. The piece is a sculptural object with 185 photographic images and illustrated texts that are printed on bond paper and “Chicago bound” to a wall mounted steel armature. The work is designed to invite the viewer to participate by removing the prints, revealing new work beneath, to complete the work. 


The content includes over 150 images from Carlos Javier Ortiz’s archive from the past 15 years and a collection new photographic screen shots based on Ortiz’s archive by Michael Genovese. In addition, Genovese illustrated a poem by Ortiz with handwritten text titled “Fresh Fruit.”
